TigerShark Research Submarine

The "TigerShark" DSRSV (Deep Sea Research -and- Salvage Vehicle) is actually a roaming laboratory that started life as the only Stingray class attack submarine, to be converted into a partially civilian role.
The only notable features missing on the TigerShark, are the flaring stabilizing platforms and fins, lower down and the clamping mechanisms, meant to hold on to long range torpedoes. Said armaments were meant to allow the submarines to strike from afar and as they could also partially serve as surface-to-air weapons, they could bombard targets on land as well, if launched on a ballistic trajectory.

The TigerShark, actually lacking torpedoes, allows it to carry a larger compliment of defensive turrets on its dorsal surfaces and it can also tow and house a wide variety of other, lesser submarines for all kinds of purposes which has proven that the craft still has some military uses; even if these are usually comprised of simple patrol duties and re-fueling/re-arming other craft.
While its sisters are cumbersome and generally limited to lesser depths due to their payload, the TS -as it is often abbreviated- often finds itself rushing into battle, rather than exploring seabeds and ocean floors and over time, this, as well as the craft's more and more impressive duty record, puts it at odds with the expectations of the military leaders. A source of some animosity and annoyance, especially as the "TS" sometimes acts as a safe heaven for some, less respected soldiers, when they wish to drop off of the radar for a while...
